Turkish Formula One and Mother’s Day

May 11, 2008 · No Comments

As I watch the start of the of the Turkish Formula One race I reflect on what I enjoy about Mother’s Day and this is as good as it gets!  Sitting down with my husband and small children, enjoying the race.  It is simple yet so enjoyable.  It is Lap four and Massa is in first place which is not too surpising.  Louis Hamilton is second with Mercedes.  I am cheering on Louis, he has really accomplished alot in the time he has been in Formula One and I think it is a good thing for some of the veteran drivers to get out of their comfort zone because this guy could be leaving them in the dust this season!!!

I do have a confession to make and I will probably get several comments about this one but part of me would like to see Jacques Vellenuve back!! There I said it…Ok I know he was in a major slump but there was just something about cheering on the underdog that was appealing.  I really wanted Jacques to prove my husband wrong.  We all know he was capable…he did before.  The other part of it is the fact that the guy is a fellow Canadian.  Logically I know he did the right thing by leaving F1 but sometimes I like to think …what if…..?

Kimi is fourth right now and another one of my favorites.  He has the power of Ferrari behind him and excellent skill as a driver.  Does anyone ever see this guy get  excited when he wins??  During the after race press conference I always get a kick out of Kimi’s lack of excitement in his voice, he is very monotone and very “matter of fact” in the way he speaks.  When he wins I know he is really jumping for joy inside even though it may not show outwardly.  Who wouldn’t be excited??

Anyway,  I won’t spoil the finish for you…I am going back to the sofa to snuggle up with my husband and little ones to enjoy the rest of the race and enjoy family time on Mother’s Day!!  Now that’s a cool Mother’s Day!!

Have a great Day!!

De-stressing with Lifestyle Management Solutions

May 7, 2008 · No Comments

I was thinking of life a few years ago and how busy and stressed I was.  I envied those friends  I would meet in the grocery store, at the bank, passing by on the street, that would greet me with this huge “Hello”, physically stop and say “So how are you, what have you been up to?”  My response was mostly the same every time, “Oh Hi”  keep walking, ” Oh not too much”, keep walking!  The thing was, I wanted to stop and tell them what was new and what I was “up” to  but I was always in a rush and I envied the fact that these people didn’t seem to be  hurried or rushed and genuinely wanted to know what was going on with me.

I was spreading myself too thin.  Trying to do everything for everyone.  I looked at my Mother and relized how she does the same thing yet she is retired.  The problem:  Yes,  poor time management is part of it, too many tasks to accomplish, and trying to maintain the lifestyles we want to live up to in todays society.  I decided I was not only going to do something about how I manage my life, I was going to help others learn solutions to life management.  Lifestyle Management Solutions was born!

For myself, I learned to use my time more effectively.  I use my day planner all the time, I set goals, allow realistic blocks of time to get things done, I started to realize I can’t over extend myself to do everything for everyone, and the big one…I allow for self care and time for myself!

I know what your thinking…”This is not realistic for my life, I have kids and a husband and they depend on me, blah, blah, blah”.  I will tell you right now if you don’t schedule this time in for you….You are at risk for severe burn out.  You could become very stressed, your immune system will could be affected, you could  become ill  and who will take care of everyone thenWho will take care of you?   Get out of the mind set that if you block time off for yourself you are being selfish because that is simply not true!  You need to do this for everyone else that depends on you, you need to be well.

Start Today

Grab your calendar or day planner and take a look at your schedule, ask yourself what tasks must be done by you, which tasks can be delegated to someone else, don’t procrastinate leaving everything until the end of the day or week, allow for the unexpected.  Make a list on the side prioritizing each daily task.  Don’t put “self care” time at the bottom of the list!!  This is a start in the right direction, making small changes towards a big pay off in the end….your time!!
